ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,421,361, issued on Sept. 23, was assigned to MONOSOL LLC (Portage, Ind.).

"Water-soluble film including metal salts" was invented by Dmitriy Davydovich (Merrillville, Ind.), Ramaswamy Ramaswamy (Merrillville, Ind.) and Nicholas Alan Nelson (Hammond, Ind.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A water-soluble film comprising a mixture of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resin, a plasticizer, and a metal salt, wherein the metal salt is present in the water-soluble film in an amount sufficient to reduce the enthalpy of melting of the film by at least 20% compared to the enthalpy of melting of an otherwise identical film not comprising the metal salt." ...
