ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,304,092, issued on May 20, was assigned to Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. (Brookfield, Wis.).

"Folding knife safety mechanism" was invented by Scott M. Hangartner (Hartland, Wis.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A folding knife with a locking mechanism is provided. The folding knife includes a locking spring that interfaces with a recess in the blade to bias the blade from being pivoted out of the handle. A button interfaces with the locking spring to actuate the locking spring interfacing with the blade."

The patent was filed on April 1, 2022, under Application No. 17/711,454.
