ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,246,425, issued on March 11, was assigned to Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. (Brookfield, Wis.).

"Hammer" was invented by Devin W. Herritz (Sussex, Wis.), Jared M. Amann (New Berlin, Wis.), James A. Cemke Jr. (Hartford, Wis.) and Emelie E. Troedson (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A tool, such as a hammer, including a surface to strike objects, such as nails, and a mechanism to facilitate the removal of objects, such as staples that have been inserted into wood. In one embodiment the mechanism includes a recess in the hammerhead body and a projection that extends above the recess."
