ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,320,042, issued on June 3, was assigned to Milliken & Co. (Spartanburg, S.C.).

"Flame-resistant fabric" was invented by Rachel W. Boyette (Taylors, S.C.) and Andrew D. Child (Moore, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A flame-resistant fabric containing staple yarns which contain non-FR cellulosic fibers, modacrylic fibers, and non-flammable fibers intimately blended together. At least a portion of the non-flammable fibers comprise an energy absorbing additive to form energy absorbing fibers.
