ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,314,809, issued on May 27, was assigned to MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING LLC (Redmond, Wash.).

"Anti-counterfeit polynucleotide taggants" was invented by Yuan-Jyue Chen (Seattle), Karin Strauss (Seattle), Christian Paquin (Herndon, Va.), Alexander Steven Crown (Bellevue, Wash.) and Sergey Yekhanin (Redmond, Wash.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Molecular anti-counterfeiting taggants are made from a plurality of synthetic polynucleotides that collectively encode a bit sequence using the sequences and hybridization states of the polynucleotides.
