ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,320,650, issued on June 3, was assigned to Microsoft Technology Licensing LLC (Redmond, Wash.).

"Map-matching for low-sampling-rate GPS trajectories" was invented by Yu Zheng (Beijing), Yin Lou (Shanghai), Chengyang Zhang (Beijing) and Xing Xie (Beijing).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This disclosure describes a map-matching module that supports a Global Positioning System (GPS) and provides a user with a best match trajectory corresponding to GPS sampling points taken at a low sampling rate. The best match trajectory is based upon a spatial-temporal analysis."

The patent was filed on April 18, 2022, under Application No. 17/659,550.
