ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,360,379, issued on July 15, was assigned to Microsoft Technology Licensing LLC (Redmond, Wash.).

"External illumination with reduced detectability" was invented by Raymond Kirk Price (Carnation, Wash.), Christopher Douglas Edmonds (Carnation, Wash.) and Michael Bleyer (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are techniques for providing an illumination system that emits illumination into an environment while also enabling that system to be undetectable to certain types of external light detection systems.
