ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,236,319, issued on Feb. 25, was assigned to Microsoft Technology Licensing LLC (Redmond, Wash.).

"Quantum code with pairwise checks" was invented by Matthew Hastings (Seattle) and Jeongwan Haah (Redmond, Wash.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A quantum error correcting code with dynamically generated logical qubits is provided. When viewed as a subsystem code, the code has no logical qubits. Nevertheless, the measurement patterns generate logical qubits, allowing the code to act as a fault-tolerant quantum memory. Each measurement can be a two-qubit Pauli measurement."
