ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,312,529, issued on May 27, was assigned to MERCK PATENT GMBH (Darmstadt, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "New compounds and their mixtures enable the formation of the ferroelectric nematic liquid crystalline phase at ambient temperature.
