ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,370,251, issued on July 29, was assigned to MERCIA PHARMA INC. (New York).

"Adjuvanted nanoparticulate influenza vaccine" was invented by Peter Blackburn (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Stephen Grimes (Scarsdale, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Vaccine compositions comprising influenza antigens formulated as nanoparticulate water in oil miniemulsions. The vaccines may be formulated at the point of use and are useful in emergency response conditions."

The patent was filed on Nov. 5, 2010, under Application No. 13/505,971.
