ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,255,328, issued on March 18, was assigned to MAZDA MOTOR Corp. (Hiroshima, Japan).

"Negative electrode material for lithium ion battery" was invented by Suguru Ikeda (Hiroshima, Japan), Hiroki Fujita (Hiroshima, Japan) and Hackho Kim (Fukuoka, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "To improve the cycle characteristics of a lithium ion battery, a mixture of a powder of a conversion-type oxide made of an iron oxide and/or a silicon oxide and causing a conversion reaction with Li ions and a powder of an oxygen ion conductor are used as a negative electrode material of the lithium ion battery."
