According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A skiver for precise removal of outside material from an elongated device, such as a medical catheter or the like, includes a longitudinal recess in a surface and a transverse replaceable blade therein. A removable cover holds the blade in place. In some embodiments, the skiver has a handle extending from the skiver. In other embodiments, an automated mechanism is used to move the elongated device through the skiver."
