ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,476,025, issued on Nov. 18, was assigned to MATERION NEWTON INC. (Newton, Mass.).
"Diffusion barriers for metallic superconducting wires" was invented by David B. Smathers (Columbus, Ohio) and Paul R. Aimone (Bridgewater, Mass.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In various embodiments, superconducting wires incorporate diffusion barriers composed of Nb alloys or Nb-Ta alloys that resist internal diffusion and provide superior mechanical strength to the wires."
The patent was filed on Sept. 11, 2023, under Application No. 18/244,492.
