ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,222,347, issued on Feb. 11, was assigned to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Mass.).
"Ligand discovery and gene delivery via retroviral surface display" was invented by Michael Birnbaum (Arlington, Mass.) and Connor Dobson (Somerville, Mass.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Compositions of retroviruses and methods of using the same for gene delivery are disclosed, wherein the retroviruses comprise a viral envelope protein comprising at least one mutation that diminishes its native function, a non-viral membrane-bound protein comprising a membrane-bound domain and an extracellular targeting domain."
