ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,479,518, issued on Nov. 25, was assigned to Magna Exteriors Inc. (Aurora, Canada).
"Bed sidegate" was invented by Robert M. Horner (Ferndale, Mich.), Larry R. Erickson (Birmingham, Mich.), Andrew E. Sicherman (Royal Oak, Mich.), Michael S. Spagnuolo (Shelby Township, Mich.), Peter G. DeMarois (Troy, Mich.) and Brian Staley (Bloomfield, Mich.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An access door for a vehicle including an open bed assembly including a front wall, two side walls and a rear wall. A door portion on one of the side walls of the liftgate opening on a substantially vertical hinged axis for providing side access to the truck bed."
