ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. PP36,800, issued on July 1, was assigned to Maejo University (Thailand).

"Curcuma plant named 'Maejo Green Pearl'" was invented by Chalermsri Nontaswatsri (Chiang Mai, Thailand).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct cultivar of Curcuma plant named 'Maejo Green Pearl' is described, characterized by slender foliage, pale-green upper bracts with dark-green margins, and green lower bracts with a red-brown stripe. The new variety is a Curcuma, normally used as an ornamental garden or landscape plant."

The patent was filed on June 28, 2024, under Application No. 18/759,588.
