ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,435,115, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Lubris LLC (Naples, Fla.).

"Production of recombinant lubricin" was invented by Tannin A. Schmidt (Avon, Conn.) and Gregory D. Jay (Norfolk, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed are new recombinant isoforms of human-like lubricin or PRG4 glycoprotein having outstanding lubrication properties and a novel glycosylation pattern, and methods for their manufacture at high levels enabling commercial production."

The patent was filed on Oct. 27, 2022, under Application No. 17/975,572.
