ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,338,463, issued on June 24, was assigned to LGC Clinical Diagnostics Inc. (Milford, Mass.).

"Sindbis control virus" was invented by Russell Garlick (Needham, Mass.), Catherine Huang (Elkridge, Md.), Bharathi Anekella (Clarksburg, Md.) and Jonathan Li (Chestnut Hill, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed are compositions and methods related to replication deficient Sindbis viruses that are able to function as controls for nucleic acid diagnostic assays (e.g., nucleic acid sequencing based assays and/or nucleic acid amplification based assays)."

The patent was filed on Feb. 22, 2021, under Application No. 17/181,657.
