US Patent Issued to LG DISPLAY on April 29 for "Foldable display device" (South Korean Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,289,981, issued on April 29, was assigned to LG DISPLAY Co. LTD. (Seoul, South Korea).

"Foldable display device" was invented by TaeWoo Kim (Paju-si, South Korea), Jungkyu Park (Seoul, South Korea) and SangJun Lee (Seoul, South Korea).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In a foldable display device, stretchability is given to an outermost area of the folding area of the first support substrate to which a relatively high stress is applied. Thus, the folding radius at the outermost area increases, which relatively reduces the stress at the outermost area. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress occurrence of cracks in the outermost area."
