ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,365,635, issued on July 22, was assigned to LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL SECURITY LLC (Livermore, Calif.).
"Shape-stable structures with ablative cooling" was invented by James Timothy Cahill (Livermore, Calif.) and Qi Rong Yang (Pleasanton, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A shape-stable structure that is configured to provide ablative cooling. The structure is used to form a component that includes shape-stable bulk structure and an ablative material. The bulk structure is infiltrated with the ablative material so that the ablative material is disposed in pathways defined by the bulk structure."
