ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,383,298, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V. (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
"Dual-action thrombectomy catheter" was invented by Mark Bilitz (Plymouth, Minn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A thrombectomy device including a handle, a catheter and a cutting assembly at the distal end of the catheter. The thrombectomy device includes two oppositely wound helical wires, whereupon rotating in opposite direction, the helical wires cooperate to convey thrombus material form the distal end of the catheter to the proximal end of the thrombectomy device without the thrombus material adhering to the inner lumen of the catheter."
