ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,330,804, issued on June 17, was assigned to Kitty Hawk Corp. (Palo Alto, Calif.).

"Automated self-testing" was invented by Alexander David Selwa (San Francisco) and Mark Johnson Cutler (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A flight-time variable associated with an aircraft is determined including by determining the flight-time variable while the aircraft is flying. It is determined whether the aircraft is airworthy based at least in part on the flight-time variable. In response to determining that the aircraft is not airworthy, the aircraft is automatically landed."
