ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,331,315, issued on June 17, was assigned to Kite Pharma Inc. (Santa Monica, Calif.).

"Chimeric antigen receptor" was invented by Kevin P. Meng (Gaithersburg, Md.), Jodi Murakami (Culver City, Calif.), Samuel T. Haile (Castro Valley, Calif.) and Edward H. Liao (Petaluma, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided are chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) comprising an NGK2D ecto domain. Provided are compositions, cells and cell therapies comprising the same. Further provided are methods of treatment."
