ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,285,736, issued on April 29, was assigned to KING FAISAL UNIVERSITY (Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia).

"Degradation of hexachlorocyclohexane from soil with steam activated biochar" was invented by Muhammad Aamir (Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia), Muhammad Hassan (Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia) and Faisal Haroon (Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present subject matter relates to a steam activated biochar, a method of preparing the steam activated biochar, and a method of removing hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) from soil using the steam activated biochar."

The patent was filed on Feb. 16, 2024, under Application No. 18/444,580.
