ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,262,925, issued on April 1, was assigned to K2M Inc. (Leesburg, Va.).

"Band tensioning system" was invented by Larry McClintock (Gore, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A band tensioner includes a shank, a head, and a tensioning mechanism disposed within the head. The shank is configured to secure the band tensioner to a first bony element and the head is secured to an end of the shank. The tensioning mechanism is configured to lengthen and shorten a flexible implant relative to the head of the band tensioner."

The patent was filed on Aug. 25, 2023, under Application No. 18/238,009.
