US Patent Issued to Japan Vam & Poval, National University Corporation Tohoku University on May 6 for "Cell or tissue embedding device" (Japanese Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,290,611, issued on May 6, was assigned to Japan Vam & Poval Co. Ltd. (Osaka, Japan) and National University Corporation Tohoku University (Miyagi, Japan).

"Cell or tissue embedding device" was invented by Akinobu Oharuda (Sakai, Japan), Yoshihiro Kimura (Sakai, Japan) and Masafumi Goto (Sendai, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A cell or tissue embedding device having an aqueous gel serving as an immunoisolation layer, the aqueous gel containing, as components thereof, a denatured polyvinyl alcohol resin having an activated carbonyl group and a crosslinking agent is highly capable of supplying a physiologically active substance."
