ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,329,478, issued on June 17, was assigned to INTUITIVE SURGICAL OPERATIONS INC. (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

"System and method for breakaway clutching in an articulated arm" was invented by Daniel Miller (Fremont, Calif.), Nitish Swarup (Sunnyvale, Calif.), Michael Turner (Sunnyvale, Calif.), Arjang M. Hourtash (San Francisco), Paul G. Griffiths (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Paul W. Mohr (Mountain View, Calif.).
