ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,533,502, issued on Jan. 27, was assigned to Intuitive Surgical Operations Inc. (Sunnyvale, Calif.).
"Instrument seal" was invented by Nathan A. Venskytis (Hamden, Conn.), Douglas S. Langley (Millford, Conn.), Jake A. Luckman (New Haven, Conn.) and Stephen C. Chai (Fremont, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A medical device may include a septum seal including a septum wall having portions defining a septum opening, and a plurality of flaps extending over the septum seal toward the septum opening, wherein the flaps define a flap opening that overlaps with the septum opening."
