ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,298,882, issued on May 13, was assigned to INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES Corp. (Armonk, N.Y.).

"Virtualization of a central processing unit measurement facility" was invented by Lisa Cranton Heller (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Patrick M. West Jr. (Waukesha, Wis.) and Phil C. Yeh (Poughkeepsoe, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A central processing unit measurement facility is virtualized in order to support concurrent use of the facility by multiple guests executing within a virtual environment. Each guest of the environment has independent control over disablement/enablement of the facility for that guest."
