US Patent Issued to International Business Machines on June 17 for "Rechargeable metal halide battery" (California Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,334,500, issued on June 17, was assigned to International Business Machines Corp. (Armonk, N.Y.).

"Rechargeable metal halide battery" was invented by Jangwoo Kim (San Jose, Calif.), Young-hye Na (San Jose, Calif.) and Ho-Cheol Kim (San Jose, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A battery includes an anode; an electrolyte including an oxidizing gas; a metal halide that functions as an active cathode material; and a solvent including a nitrile compound; and a current collector contacting the cathode material."

The patent was filed on March 12, 2022, under Application No. 17/693,352.
