ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,368,852, issued on July 22, was assigned to InterDigital VC Holdings Inc. (Wilmington, Del.).
"Method and device for picture encoding and decoding" was invented by Ya Chen (Rennes, France), Tangi Poirier (Thorigne-Fouillard, France) and Karam Naser (Mouaze, France).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An encoding method is presented. Transform coefficients of a block are first obtained. They are then scanned according to a scan pattern for entropy coding. The scan pattern is determined responsive to a shape of the block."
The patent was filed on Nov. 17, 2023, under Application No. 18/512,263.
