ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,299,143, issued on May 13, was assigned to Intel Corp. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Plaintext integrity protection mechanism" was invented by Reuven Elbaum (Haifa, Israel), Gyora Benedek (Kiriat Bialik, Israel), Avinash L. Varna (Chandler, Ariz.) and David Novick (Beaverton, Ore.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An apparatus is described including cryptography circuitry to generate authentication tags to provide integrity protection for plaintext and ciphertext."

The patent was filed on Oct. 27, 2023, under Application No. 18/496,315.
