ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,271,991, issued on April 8, was assigned to Intel Corp. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Topology shader technology" was invented by Hugues Labbe (Folsom, Calif.), Tomer Bar-On (Petah Tikva, Israel), Gabor Liktor (San Francisco), Andrew T. Lauritzen (Victoria, Canada) and John G. Gierach (Hillsboro, Ore.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Systems, apparatuses and methods may provide for technology that receives, at a topology shader in a graphics pipeline, an object description and generates, at the topology shader, a set of polygons based on the object description. Additionally, the set of polygons may be sent to a vertex shader."
