ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,357,723, issued on July 15, was assigned to Innovotech Inc. (Edmonton, Canada).

"Antimicrobial silver iodate" was invented by Merle E. Olson (Calgary, Canada), Patricia L. Nadworny (Sherwood Park, Canada) and Graeme Prosperi-Porta (Edmonton, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention is silver (I) periodate compounds and their use in preventing or reducing microbial contamination. The invention includes gels, coatings, and articles of manufacture having a surface contacted or coated with a gel comprising an antimicrobial silver (I) compound. Methods of treatment are also disclosed."

The patent was filed on Aug. 14, 2023...
