ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,260,488, issued on March 25, was assigned to Imagination Technologies Ltd. (Kings Langley, Great Britain).

"Methods and graphics processing units for determining differential data for rays of a ray bundle" was invented by Luke T. Peterson (San Francisco), James Jones (Kings Langley, Great Britain) and Aaron Dwyer (San Francisco).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Graphics processing system configured to perform ray tracing. Rays are bundled together and processed together. When differential data is needed by a shader, the data of a true ray in the bundle can be used rather than processing separate tracker rays."
