ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,459,287, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Illinois Tool Works Inc. (Glenview, Ill.).

"Apparatuses and methods for printed security features" was invented by Robert Phillip Renz (Ipswich, Great Britain) and Morven McAlpine (Ipswich, Great Britain).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A visual security feature is provided that is disposed on a target. The visual security feature includes two substantially transparent layers. At least one of the two substantially transparent layers is present in an image-wise pattern."
