ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,261,463, issued on March 25, was assigned to Illinois Tool Works Inc. (Glenview, Ill.).

"Battery and battery charger" was invented by Pascale Grandjean (Guilherand-Granges, France) and Mederic Cartier (Etables, France).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A battery and a corresponding battery charger, wherein the battery charger can identify a type of the connected battery to ensure that an appropriate charging current is supplied."

The patent was filed on July 12, 2021, under Application No. 17/373,054.
