ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,300,072, issued on May 13, was assigned to IGT (Las Vegas).

"Accumulation, collection and redemption of limited duration persistent symbols" was invented by Timothy F. Springer (Reno, Nev.), William Bussick (Reno, Nev.) and Ginese Weyant (Reno, Nev.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Gaming systems and methods that temporarily accumulate symbols over one or more plays of a game and collect zero, one or more of such symbols based on the occurrence of a symbol collection event."

The patent was filed on Oct. 18, 2022, under Application No. 17/968,545.
