ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,444,932, issued on Oct. 14, was assigned to IDEX Biometrics ASA (Oslo, Norway).

"Biometric sensor and system level electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection" was invented by Imre Knausz (Fairport, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection on a smart card includes a substrate having a biometric sensor mounted thereon, and a conductive element mounted to the substrate, wherein a current induced by an ESD strike is conducted to a ground through the conductive element and the substrate."

The patent was filed on Feb. 9, 2023, under Application No. 18/166,528.
