ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,471,935, issued on Nov. 18, was assigned to Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (Mahwah, N.J.).

"Self leveling patellar drill guide" was invented by Polina Canepa (Wyckoff, N.J.), Elena Doce (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and Stefano Bini (Piedmont, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A patella drill guide includes a head having a convexly curved outer surface. Cylindrical channels extend through the head. The drill guide also includes collar having an inner surface that defines a concavity corresponding in shape to the convexly curved outer surface. The inner surface of the collar is fitted to the outer surface of the head to define an articular joint."...
