ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,357,328, issued on July 15, was assigned to Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (Mahwah, N.J.).
"Joint resection guide" was invented by Andrew J. Nelson (New City, N.Y.), Daniel E. Sapio (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), Sunny Shorabh (Ghaziabad, India), Shashank Verma (Agra, India) and Morgan Schliem (Hoboken, N.J.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A resection guide includes an anchor having bone anchoring features, a cutting block having a cutting guide defined therein, and a linkage flexibly connecting the cutting block to the anchor. The flexibility of the linkage provides the cutting block with six degrees of freedom of motion relative to the anchor."
