ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,343,261, issued on July 1, was assigned to Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (Mahwah, N.J.).

"Partially porous tibial component" was invented by Aiguo Wang (Wayne, N.J.), Matthew P. Poggie (Montclair, N.J.) and Nicholas Nai Guang Dong (Little Falls, N.J.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The tibial implant includes an integral baseplate, keel and four spikes. Each of the spikes include a non-tapering section and a tapering section, four free ends and four fillets. The spikes are specifically spaced about the baseplate and include porous outer surfaces adjacent to the baseplate."
