"Compaction roller" was invented by Kentaro Sugimura (Wako, Japan).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A compaction roller comprising: a first roller rotating about a first axis; a second roller rotating about a second axis; a drive unit that supplies a driving force to at least one of the first roller and the second roller; and a storage unit that stores a battery for supplying electric power to the drive unit, wherein the storage unit allows the battery to be inserted and removed in a direction parallel to a plane passing through the first axis and the second axis."
