ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,268,534, issued on April 8, was assigned to Hologic Inc. (Marlborough, Mass.).

"Compression arm devices and methods" was invented by Kenneth Defreitas (Patterson, N.Y.) and Alan Rego (Woodbury, Conn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A compression arm device for compressing a breast in an imaging system with a compression paddle. The compression arm device includes a drive for moving the compression paddle towards the breast such that the drive provides a variable resistance during a contact of the compression paddle with the breast."

The patent was filed on Jan. 3, 2024, under Application No. 18/402,915.
