"Vaginal speculum" was invented by Malene Hegenberger (Karrebaeksminde, Denmark).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described is a vaginal speculum having a vaginal assembly of at least two longitudinal elements connected at a distal end for insertion into the vagina of a subject. The vaginal speculum is configured for holding the vaginal walls of the subject apart, thereby permitting examination and/or suturing of at least the posterior part of the vaginal tissue."
