ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,241,363, issued on March 4, was assigned to Halliburton Energy Services Inc. (Houston).

"Steerability of downhole ranging tools using rotary magnets" was invented by Pete L. Schiermeier (Houston) and Sean Hinke (Houston).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A ranging system having magnets positioned at various locations along the drive system. Location of the magnetics is shifted to different points on the drilling string to remove the need for a nearby bit sub that would detrimentally affect the steerability of the drilling system."
