"Hair-smoothing tool" was invented by Mary Ahrens (Wilton, Conn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A hair-smoothing tool includes a supporting base, a carpeting structure on or over the supporting base, and optionally bristles and a cushion member. The bristles and the cushion member, if present, are formed on a first surface of the supporting base. The hair-smoothing tool further includes a carpeting structure on either the first surface of the supporting base or an opposite second surface of the supporting base, or both.
