ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,256,138, issued on March 18, was assigned to GoPro Inc. (San Mateo, Calif.).
"User-linked features for image capture device" was invented by Clark Weber (Mill Valley, Calif.), Fong Tran (San Mateo, Calif.), Ian Klassen (San Mateo, Calif.) and Vadim Polonichko (San Diego).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Features to be enabled for an image capture device may be determined based on user subscription to a feature plan and/or user usage of the image capture device. The features for the image capture device may be enabled through firmware update or code unlock."
