ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,320,289, issued on June 3, was assigned to GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC (Detroit).
"Passive surge tank pressure augmentation" was invented by Jacob C Hedrick (Shelby Township, Mich.), Scott D. Gendron (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and David Alexander Schmitt (Waterford, Mich.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods and apparatus are provided for pressurizing a liquid cooling system including a pressurized air source configured to supply compressed air and a surge tank for storing a liquid coolant and for pressurizing an interior volume of the surge tank such that a coolant pressure is maintained at the desired operating pressure."
