ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,332,458, issued on June 17, was assigned to GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC (Detroit).

"Vehicle system having variable opacity" was invented by Benjamin Chu (Royal Oak, Mich.) and Victor Wong (Lake Orion, Mich.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system for providing variable opacity includes a polarization assembly disposed at a vehicle. The polarization assembly includes a first panel having a plurality of first polarizing elements, and a second panel having a plurality of second polarizing elements, the first panel and the second panel overlapping in a path of light incident on the vehicle.
